London Safer Lorry Scheme

As of 1 September 2015, Transport for London’s safer lorry scheme went live. The scheme requires all vehicles of more than 3.5 tonnes to be fitted with class V and VI mirrors as well as side guards.

The scheme which is enforced by the DVSA (Drivers and Vehicle Standards Agency), the police and a TFL funded HGV Taskforce carries a £1000 fine if breached. The operator will also be referred for investigation to the relevant traffic commissioner.

The scheme is in effect 24-7 within the boundary zones, any vehicles without the required safety equipment will be banned from all roads in Greater London
